Spring.

Probably my favourite season for flowers. Coming out of the winter funk, smelling the sweet scents and looking at the bright colours always lifts my spirits.

For example, in Ontario dogwood is in bloom but since it's the provincial flower, florists are not permitted to sell it. If you want dogwood, look for a beautiful silk :)

Your Eyes So Blue So Bright

So I'm addicted to Etsy. That's not news. And because of the long weekend I'm overdue with my weekly bridal Etsy finds. I'll get to that as soon as I can.

I found something even cooler though. Well, it's amusing me right now, that's for sure.

There's a Land That I Heard Of

I made a funny realization the other day. No, not that I'm not a big Judy Garland fan (see blog title). I was thinking about favourite movies and how much of a movie snob I am. I think we had just come home from The Dark Knight and were tearing it apart. Even though I loved that movie, I thought about all the others that were just okay in my books.

I'm a bit off my point though. I was thinking about my favourite movies.

My two most beloved flicks were made in different decades, have very different actors and draw very different viewers. Yet they make perfect sense to me ... and I only last week realized they are both (loosely) about the same thing ... weddings! More specifically, weddings to the wrong people. Don't let that keep you away from these movies though.

The first one is a movie most of you know, have scene and hopefully love. The Princess Bride. I don't think I need to really explain this one too much as I see couples add pieces of it to their own weddings (the below isn't me but I'm guilty as charged, too).



If you haven't had the opportunity though, sit down with it and be ready to laugh :)

My most cherished movie of all is one that not many people would suspect of me nor have many heard of. In fact, it gets mixed up all the time with another movie that is nothing like it. Then again, there is nothing like this movie.

The Philadelphia Story.

It's an old black and white flick with Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart that I could put on repeat and watch over and over all day long. Honestly, I don't want to say anything about the movie other than FIND IT. It's not for everyone but even if I could convert a dozen or so people over to the splendor of the witty dialog, my job is done ;)

Time for the weekly Esty finds!

This time I thought I'd go with a theme ... all about the bride herself. Weddings are one of those times when we can shop for ourselves and other people don't think we're incredibly selfish ;) Here are some things that might catch your fancy!

How Bizarre, How Bizarre

Never in my life did I think I'd be blogging about this. Then again, I didn't think I would own one of the following. But I do. And I'm glad.

For my birthday this year, my wonderful grandmother tucked one of these in her care package for me. At first I thought it was kind of odd but I decided recently to grow it ...


Right now I'm in about week two of this little plant. And by golly (yes, golly), it's growing! I'm not sure how long it will last or what it's supposed to do but here's a quick rundown ...

In the package you receive a pot, 'soil' and a bean with a message. You simply put a bit of 'soil' in the pot, place the bean in, add more soil, give it some water and watch what happens. For those having troubles visualizing it, here are some more lovely web pics ;)

Baby, What a Big Surprise

Fantastic news while I was shopping today. Not only did I successfully find what I was looking for but I came across a postcard with some exciting information! For anyone in the Durham region that might be tired of going to the big grocery stores or looking for those local markets only to find out they're closed, there's a new solution ... durham Organics!

They put together bins of fresh, organic produce from local farms and deliver straight to your door. You can choose from four different levels, each one with it's own benefits. The produce does not travel more than 100kms, when delivering they use their efficient Hybrid van, they commit to carbon offsets ... the list goes on.

Check out the website. I'm hoping this leads to more organic caterers in the area, too ... perfect for events!

To a Valley in the Spring Time

Last year I stumbled upon an amazing little flower that has quickly become a favourite. In the GTA you can find it in late summer/early fall (or at least I did) but to be honest, I'm not sure what's seasonal. It is grown commercially in in South Africa but a florist would have to help me out with what happens here.

The thing that was most interesting to me to find out? It's common name is Blushing Bride :)
